Two novel picornaviruses have been found in the faeces of ring-tailed lemurs (Lemur catta) and black-and-white ruffed lemurs (Varecia variegata) in the USA (Lim et al., 2015). They have been named lesavirus 1 and lesavirus 2 and are most closely related to the hunniviruses and teschoviruses. Lesavirus 1 belongs to new species, Malagasivirus A in the genus Malagasivirus.
