Derivation of binomial species name: The Cetus was a sea
monster in Greek mythology
Virus common name: Cetacean senecavirus 1 (CSV-1)
Cetacean senecavirus 1 (CSV-1) was found in the brain of a dead
stranded Beluga whale (Delphinapterus leucas) in Alaska,
USA in 2019 (Vernygora et al., 2024). Another virus very similar
to CSV-1 was also isolated and sequenced from a stranded
dead harbor porpoise (Phocoena phocoena).
