The species Cardiovirus A (formerly named Encephalomyocarditis virus) consists of a two serotypes named encephalomyocarditis virus 1 (EMCV-1) and EMCV-2. The second serotype was recently discovered in a wood mouse (Apodemus sylvaticus) in Germany (Philipps et al., 2012).
