  Three picornaviruses have been discovered in bats in Hong Kong SAR (Lau et al., 2011). They appear to be most closely related to the sapeloviruses.

Bat picornavirus 1 (BPV-1) & BPV-2

BPV-1 was detected in the Lesser bent-winged bat (Miniopterus pusillus) and the Greater bent-winged bat (Miniopterus schreibersii).

BPV-2 was detected in the Lesser bent-winged bat (Miniopterus pusillus), the Greater bent-winged bat (Miniopterus schreibersii) and the Japanese pipistrelle (Pipistrellus abramus). However, the GenBank sequence records indicate that both BPV-2 sequences came from the Western bent-winged bat (Miniopterus magnater).
