Passerivirus A is a species in
the genus Passerivirus. The name
was changed in July 2013 from "Saapivirus" at the request of the
ICTV Executive Committee.
A picornavirus has been identified in wild
birds (thrushes) of the family Turdidae (Woo et al.,
2010). The authors provisionally named the virus turdivirus 1 (TV-1)
and suggested that it should be a member of a novel picornavirus genus
with the suggested name "Orthoturdivirus". The
Picornaviridae Study Group has decided that these names are
unsuitable and have designated the virus passerivirus as outlined above.
See also oscivirus (turdivirus
2 and 3).

(note: passerivirus may have two VPgs)
