A number of candidate picornaviruses or picorna-like
viruses (PLV) have been described in the literature usually with
only electron micrographs to support the tentative classification.
Currently picorna-like viruses of invertebrates mostly fall into two
families,
Dicistroviridae and
Iflaviridae, while those of plants are classified
within the Secoviridae. Picorna-like viruses of algae
belong to the
Marnaviridae. A number of unclassified picorna-like
viruses have also been reported.
