4 March 2003:
The (nearly) complete genome sequence of a Theiler-like virus
isolated from rats [AB090161]
has been released onto the EMBL/GenBank/DDBJ databases by Dr. Kazutaka
Ohsawa of the Nagasaki University School of Medicine, Japan (Ohsawa et al.,
2003). In 2008, with the agreement of Dr. Ohsawa, TLV has been renamed Thera
virus (TRV) (from Theiler-like rat virus) (Liang
et al., 2008).

July 2008:
The (nearly) complete genome sequence of another rat theilovirus was
released on GenBank (EU815052).
The authors (Dole et al., unpublished) refer to it as "rat
theilovirus 1", however, it is very closely related to Thera
virus.
20 Sep 2008: Another genome sequence of a thera
virus released,
EU542581
(Drake et al., 2008).
