Canine kobuvirus 1 (CaKV-1) is a
new virus which can be classified within the genus Kobuvirus
(Li et al., 2011; Carmona-Vicente et al., 2013). CaKV-1 is most closely related to murine kobuvirus 1 and Aichi virus 1, and probably represents
a novel Aichivirus A genotype.
A second genome sequence of a canine kobuvirus has also recently
been published (Kapoor et al., 2011). These two viruses are
closely related, e.g. 6.7% nt / 6.0% aa difference in VP1.
Recently, Yamashita et al. (2011) reported the partial
genome sequence (~5kb) of an Aichi-like virus (Y12/04) from
wastewater in Japan. This sequence was closely related to the canine
kobuviruses described above.
The partial 3Dpol sequences of a
feline
kobuvirus has been detected in cats in South Korea. These
sequences are related to canine kobuvirus 1 by 87% nt id.
VP1 and partial 3D sequences of kobuvirus of red foxes (Vulpes
vulpes) in Italy and Spain are closely related to canine kobuvirus
1 (Di
Martino et al., unpublished;
Bodewes et al., 2014).
Recently, canine kobuviruses have been found in domestic or wild
carnivores in Africa (Olarte-Castillo et al., 2015).
