The
species Enterovirus eibovi (formerly Enterovirus E) is
comprised of group A bovine enteroviruses (formerly
classified within the species Bovine enterovirus
which no longer exists).
Currently five types are recognised, EV-E1 to EV-E5.

*, replaces the isolate known as BEV-1 (Washington/57; Moll and Davis,
1959) since VG(5)27 has been more extensively studied.
The
crystal structure
of EV-E1 VG(5)27 has been determined (Smyth et al., 1995).
A BEV has recently been reported from a bottlenose dolphin (EU886967;
Nollens et al., 2009); it belongs to type EV-E1.
